Cats are known for enjoying getting in and out of boxes and climbing unlikely places. In homes of cat lovers, they provide catwalks on the walls and purposely install small cubby shelves so that their cats can climb up whenever they want. Being agile creatures, cats can get around without doing too much damage to things. They can climb up bookshelves and just skirt around the books. It is no big deal.

What can be dangerous is when they are able to climb up to places where there are breakable decorative pieces. You don’t want your cat messing with your antique Venetian glass vase, so you try to keep him away from the buffet cabinet. One way that you can do this is by getting him a cat tower. He can climb all he wants. He can take a nap on one of the steps. You will be happy with that. You know that he is doing what he wants and not putting your favorite decorative pieces in danger of breaking.
