Things to Consider When Installing A Cat Door For Sash Windows

Cats are natural born explorers. Some owners usually install cat flaps and cat doors for windows to give their cats the freedom of coming in or going out of the house. For sash windows that slide up and down, certain types of cat doors provide an entry and exit point for your cat without installing it on a door or wall. It can slide easily into an open window, but there are some key points to remember when installing this.

Before buying that cat door for the sash window, make sure that it fits when then window is raised all the way up. Make sure your window does not have an overhang so the locking cover can slide straight up, as some cat door models need the clearance above the window. If you have dual pane windows, then get the cat door for that particular type. When these are installed, they do not have locks for the sash window itself. Simply place a wooden screw above the window to lock it permanently.
