Dog crates may also be found in plastic or wood. Wood dog crates are popular in cold locations because wood provides insulation against cold weather. Aside from that, dog crates made from special kinds of wood give protection to the dog; they are less prone to harbor fleas. However, because wood is heavy, wood crates are not as portable as plastic or wire crates. They also take more effort to clean.
