dog nutrition

Our pets basically need the same nutritional requirements as humans. It is important that our dogs get the right amount of carbohydrates, protein and fats. Add to that the right amount and blend of vitamins and minerals. These are necessary for him to maintain good health and a bouncing energy. If a dog is getting the right balance of these nutrients, it will show in his coat and skin and in the way he prances around.

But the specific requirements of dog nutrition will depend on the dog’s size, breed and age, among other factors. A general guideline would be: 20-25% protein, 20-35% fat and 40-60% carbohydrate. An important thing to remember is to always provide him with a bowl of fresh, clean water. Water is important as it plays a key role in how nutrients and wastes are transported throughout the body. Like us humans, a diet that includes vegetables, fruits and whole grain will maintain healthy digestion and regular bowel movement.
