exercising your horse

Like people, a horse’s joints and muscles become stiff and weak without exercise. Make exercising your horse part of his care and wellness. If your horse has spent a good part of winter cooped up in the stables, ensure that you get him back on his feet once spring comes. Take care though not to push him too hard during the first exercise routines you’ll be doing.

Warm up by taking your horse out for a few leisurely walks around the stable yard before pushing him to go faster and farther. Be conscious of the distances you expect him to go. Start with short trips and extend the length of time gradually until your horse eases into the routine and learn to enjoy the daily exercises.
